NOTICE OF RACE

Westwood New Skippers Regatta
26th August 2017

Westwood Sailing Club, 12 Regatta Road, Toronto

1 RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
1.2 The regatta will also be governed by the prescriptions of Sail Canada.
1.3 The Canadian Albacore Class Rules shall also apply. Where there may be a conflict between
the Racing Rules of Sailing, the Sail Canada prescriptions and the Class Rules, the Class Rules
shall prevail.
1.4 The sailing instructions may modify other racing rules, please refer to the sailing
instructions.
2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 The regatta is open to all current members of the Canadian Albacore Association, including
all members of CAA-affiliated sailing clubs, or of any other national Albacore association.
2.2 Skipper must hold CanSail 3 (or Bronze 4) certification or higher. If they do not hold these
certifications, approval must be granted by their club Commodore and Race Chair.
2.3 Skipper must not have helmed any Friday Night Race during the previous (2016) or any
earlier season.
2.4 Crew must not have helmed any Friday Night Race during the previous (2016) or any earlier
season.
2.5 Eligible boats may enter by completing the registration form and release, and by paying the
required fee on or before August 26th, 2017.
3 FEES
3.1 Registration fee of $20 per boat includes racing, breakfast, post-race snacks, and prizes for
both helm and crew. Payment can be paid by cheque or cash in person, or before Friday 11pm etransfer to commodore@westwoodsailing.ca (receipt email will be sent, copying Treasurer.) Please email race@westwoodsailing.ca giving team, club and sail number.
4 SCHEDULE for AUGUST 26
4.1 Competitor registration will be held from 0930 until 1015
4.2 The competitors meeting will be held at 1030.
4.3 First warning signal will occur at 1130, with additional races to follow
4.4 The race committee will run a maximum of five races, as weather and course conditions
permit.
4.5 Breakfast for competitors will be served at Westwood Sailing Club. Awards and snacks will
follow the racing beginning approximately 1600 (4pm).


5 PRIZES
5.1 Prizes will be awarded to the top three boats overall.

6 MEASUREMENT & BUOYANCY
6.1 Each boat shall have a valid measurement certificate with a current valid buoyancy
endorsement.
7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
7.1 The sailing instructions will be available at Westwood Sailing Club from 09:30 on day of
race.
8 VENUE
8.1 The regatta will be hosted by the Westwood Sailing Club.
8.2 Racing will take place in the Outer Harbour of Toronto.
9 SCORING
9.1 The low point scoring system of Appendix A of the RRS will apply. Completion of a least one
race shall constitute a series. One race will be dropped if four or more races are sailed.
10 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to
Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal
injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
11 INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a
minimum cover of ($1,000,000) per incident or the equivalent.
