Alex Byczko
Our head instructor Alex is a certified Sail Canada Coach and Learning Facilitator and has worked with Westwood Sailing Club for about 15 years. He started sailing in the year 2000 with Cadets Canada, became an instructor in 2003, and began certifying sailing coaches in 2014 when he became a learning facilitator. He is heavily involved in the sailing scene in both Canada and the United States through various racing fleets, coaching opportunities, and national committees. Alex’s teaching philosophy centres around gaining a confident command of the fundamental movements of sailing so students can get out on the water and experience the “silent rush of power” with pleasure. Outside of teaching at the club, you might find Alex tending to the fire pit or sailing his RS Aero or one of his favourites - the Hobie 16 catamaran, loved for its power and the athleticism needed to sail it.
Aiden L and Qwin T-D
Qwin and Aiden are certified sailing instructors with Sail Canada. They have been teaching sailing at Westwood Sailing Club since 2024, where they support the club’s sailing programs and help students develop their skills and confidence on the water.
Both instructors are committed to creating a positive and safe learning environment while helping sailors of all levels improve their sailing knowledge, technique, and teamwork.
Josephine W
Josephine is a certified sailing instructor with Sail Canada, holding her certification since 2020. She brings a strong passion for sailing, safety, and skill development to every lesson. Josephine is dedicated to helping sailors of all levels build confidence on the water while developing solid sailing techniques.
Josephine is a recent addition to the instructors at Westwood Sailing Club, starting with us in 2025. She supports the club’s training programs and works closely with students to create a positive and encouraging learning environment. Her teaching focuses on safety, teamwork, and fostering a lifelong appreciation for sailing.
